Description 
Summary of Position:  Jay’s Café is searching for an engaging, courteous barista who is passionate about food and beverage preparation and education. The barista will greet customers, answer their questions, take orders and accept payments, and prepare and serve food and drinks. You will also maintain a clean and well-stocked workspace and dining area, update displays, and continuously expand your knowledge of food and beverage quality controls, preparation methods, and presentation. 
 
To succeed as a barista, you should be committed to providing customers with excellent service. You should be positive, friendly, knowledgeable, and polite. 

Work Environment: Jay’s Cafe is a family-friendly casual and quick-serve establishment with both indoor and outdoor seating.  We look to give our guests a great family-friendly experience in a stylish atmosphere whether they are grabbing a quick bite or taking a leisurely break from their day.  We expect many of our customers may be inquiring about other offerings at District 24 or locals who frequent our establishments regularly.  Employees should be prepared to engage in conversation, serve as ambassadors for all of District 24’s offerings and positively respond to questions about opening times, entertainment options and menu offerings throughout the property. 

Requirements 
Duties & Responsibilities

·       Welcoming customers, informing them about specials or new items, answering questions, and accepting orders and payments. 
·       Preparing foods, such as sandwiches or baked goods, and grinding and blending coffee beans, brewing coffee and tea, and serving items to customers. 
·       Packaging food and beverages for sale. 
·       Selling coffee and tea blends and brewing equipment,highlighting the differences between items, and educating customers about brewing methods. 
·       Cleaning and restocking work and dining areas, emptying trash and sanitizing equipment and utensils. 
·       Learning about brewing methods, beverage blends, food preparation, and presentation techniques to improve food quality. 
·       Updating signage and displays to attract customers. 
·       Taking inventory and replenishing items in display cases, at tables, or behind the counter. 
·       Working as part of a fun, high-energy team. 
·       Adhering to all food safety regulations and quality controls. 

 
Qualifications/Skills: 

·       Customer and Personal Service — Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation and elevation of customer satisfaction. 
·       Active Listening — Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. 
·       Service Orientation — Actively looking for ways to help people. 
·       Speaking — Talking to others to convey information effectively. 
·       Social Perceptiveness — Being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do. 
·       Coordination — Adjusting actions in relation to others' actions. 
·       Communicate with supervisors and respond to protocols and procedures after training 
·       Demonstrate ability to communicate with the public, work time spent standing, working with or in a group or team, 
Education and/or Experience: 

  • No previous restaurant experience required
  • Some barista experience preferred
Physical Demands:
 
  • Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours)
Computer/Technology Skills:
 
  • No previous skills required; job duties may require working with point of sale software programs and/or inventory software.
Language/Communication Skills:
 
  • Be able to communicate clearly and effectively in the predominant language(s) of our guests
